Korea Republic men’s national team for the Asian Games have been confirmed.
Coach Hwang Sunhong attended the press conference at the KFA House on Friday to announce his final squad for the Asian Games, naming 22 players including a quartet of contingent based in foreign leagues as well as three overaged players.
Having recently completed his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, Lee Kangin made the list although his participation still depends on the talks with his new club. The rest of three players plying their trade overseas – Park Gyuhyeon, Hong Hyeonseok and Jeong Wooyeong – are cleared from their respective clubs to take part in the Asian Games.
For overaged players – also known as the wild cards, defenders Park Jinsub, Seol Youngwoo and midfielder Paik Seungho have been selected. Hwang said: “Park Jinsub and Paik Seungho are playing for the same club, so I’m expecting to see the synergy between them. Fullbacks are important parts of modern football and I hope Seol Youngwoo can help our side from both flanks.”
In fact, Hwang took some time to choose his forwards until the very last minute, before naming Park Jaeyong (FC Anyang) and An Jaejun (Bucheon FC). Meanwhile, Joo Mingyu (Ulsan Hyundai) did not make the final list as one of the overaged players.
The final draw for the group stage of the Asian Games football tournament will take place in Hangzhou on 27 July.
