Korea Republic Women’s National Football Team led by YOON Dukyeo won 5-0 against Philippines in the 5th and 6th place play-off match of AFC Women's Asian Cup 2018 held at Amman International Stadium, Amman, Jordan on April 17. Thanks to the victory the national team managed to qualify for the FIFA Women's World Cup France 2019. It is the team’s third qualification to the tournament after 2003 and 2015.

The road to the World Cup was never easy. The national team was grouped with DPR Korea in the AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualifier 2018. The team had to be at the top of the group to be invited to the main event in Jordan. With firm determination, the team eventually ended up in the 1st place, outranking DPR Korea in the goal differences.

The national team’s rough journey did not end there. The team was grouped with tricky teams such as Australia and Japan in the AFC Women's Asian Cup Jordan 2018. Surprisingly the other group was only consisted of relatively easy teams, Jordan, China, Thailand and the Philippines.

Because there were only 5 tickets to the World Cup, the top two teams from each group won the direct tickets and two third placers had to compete for the one final ticket.

The team tied 0-0 in first two matches against Australia and Japan, and won 4-0 against Vietnam in the final group stage match. Nevertheless the team won 5 points with Japan, Korea ended up in the third place because of the number of goals.

In the play-off match against the Philippines, the team showed the world that they are worthy of qualification to the World Cup, and eventually won the ticket. This is the team’s first consecutive qualification to the World Cup.
