A challenge of 'the dreaming boys' had a smooth start. Korea Republic U-20 National Team defeated Guinea.
The U-20 National Team led by Shin Taeyong defeated Guinea 3-0, fueled by continuous goals of Lee Seungwoo, Lim Minhyuk and Paik Seungho in the 1st round of the Group A in the 'FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea 2017', which was held at Jeonju World Cup Stadium on May 20. Korea placed a conjoint 1st ranking together with England, the team which completely defeated Argentina 3-0 in the previous match.
In this group stage, up to 2nd ranking in each group will be directly qualified for the round of 16. The 3rd ranking of the group will be compared its score with another 3rd ranking team of the other group which makes up total of 4 teams to be qualified for the round of 16.
Before the match kicked off, the Red Devil supporters sat in north opened up a giant flag, which was written 'We are the boys of dreams.' It was a message with an impact which supports strong challenge of players under 20 years old. The U-20 national team dreams to get over the achievement of senior players who were qualified for the semifinal in the Mexico Game in 1983. Fortunately, the team won 3 winning scores in the first match of the group league, forecasting a mild cruise.
Coach Shin Taeyong used 4-1-4-1 formation. Cho Youngwook(Korea University) was positioned in the front line while Lee Seungwoo(Barcelona)-Lee Sangheon(Ulsan Hyundai)-Lee Jinhyun(Sungkyunkwan University)-Paik Seungho(Barcelona) were positioned in the second line. Lee Seungmo(Pohang Steelers) was in charge of holding midfielder and the back four were kept by Woo Chanyang(Pohang Steelers)-Lee Sangmin(Soongsil University)-Jeong Taewook(Ajou University)-Lee Youhyeon(Jeonnam Dragons). The goal was kept by Song Bumkeun(Korea University).
Guinea, which entered the match with 3rd ranking from Africa, initially hid their fighting power against Korea. The team kicked off the first half with major players such as Morlaye Sylla, Alseny Soumah, Naby Bangoura on bench. It was a strategy to twist Korea(home team)'s early attack and compete in the second half. Indeed, Guinean players rarely crossed over the half line and formed a defence block. Offence was led by Jules Keita who is fast with feet.
While the flow was a bit stuffy, Lee Seungwoo came forefront as a problem solver. He kept his promise "I will make the first goal of Korea" which he has made in an interview with MediaDay before the game. Lee Seungwoo was accompanied by two or three defenders in the 36', solely broke through by dribbling and made a shooting from the right side of the arc. This shoot hit the opponent team's defender, bent over the goal keeper, and shook the goal net. Lee Seungwoo, who made a successful goal performed a ceremony with bright spark, then ran to Coach Shin Taeyong and hugged him.
Highly cheered up Korea put a goal against the opponent team again in the 45'. Lee Seungwoo gave the slip to the two defence players of the opponent team from the left side, passed the ball to the center. The ball was then handled by Cho Youngwook, who used non-stop shooting by left foot and put a goal. However, the chief referee, Carlos Astrosa decided to get help from VAR(Video Assistant Referee) after the negotiation with the VAR Room via head set. As a result, Cho Youngwook's goal was acknowledged as void. It was confirmed that Lee Seungwoo, who gave the pass to Cho Youngwook before putting a goal, crossed over the goal line. The first half ended 1-0.
Guinea, which was behind one goal, tried a fierce attack in order to dominate the game at the beginning of the second half. At the beginning of the second half, Daouda Camara, Morlaye Sylla came into the ground and imposed a gravity on the attack. Korea did not stay still. In the 65', Lim Minhyeok substituted Lee Sangheon and did not loosen the reins.
Korea, which continued leading the game, had to substitute a player without intention in the 75'. Lee Seungmo complained of muscle cramps. Coach Shin substituted Kim Seungwoo for Lee Seungmo. One minute after Kim Seungwoo entered the ground, there was an additional goal gained. Lee Seungwoo's through-pass was handed over to Lim Minhyeok, scored a goal by right foot shoot in the 76'.
Five minutes after having a second goal, Korea gained another goal in the 81'. Woo Chanyang's long pass was connected by Jeong Taewook's header up to the gate of the goal. Paik Seungho, who had a fierce running like storm, tried a shoot which went beyond the height of the running goal keeper, succeeded to score 3-0.
Korea still craved for another goal even after having three goals. For the rest of 10 minutes, the team moved around the ground busily in order to gain additional goal. Yet, there was no more goal.
