Korea Women's National Team beat New Zealand 2-0 on the Group B 3rd round in 2017 Cyprus Cup, which was held in the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium, Larnaca, Cyprus on March 7th. Korea recorded a tie 0-0 with Austria in the 1st round, win 2-0 in the 2nd round in Scotland, and confirmed ranked 1st in B group with 2 wins and 1 tie. It is the first time that Korea qualified for finals in Cyprus Cup.
Korea led in the match with New Zealand. The team had a few opportunities but failed to gain a goal. The goal was successful in the second half. In 50', JANG Selgi broke through from left which was linked to cross. The ball hit the goalpost and bounced back but Kang Yumi rushed towards the goal, successfully making a goal with right foot.
Two minutes later, there was another goal on the right side. Kim Hyeri's free kick was passed to Ji Soyun and she made it successful to have a non-stop header in the penalty area and gained a score. JI Soyeon recorded goals in a row in the two matches including in the match with Scotland.
On the other hand, North Korea, which South Korea was expecting to have a showdown, recorded a victory 4-1 on the 3rd round with Belgium but ranked 2nd in A group, getting behind Switzerland which recorded no loss. Therefore, a showdown which was expected to be a preliminary game of final preliminary round for the Women's Asian Cup in Pyeongyang in April is not achieved. Korea will have the final match with Switzerland in AEK Arena in the early morning on March 9th.
Coach Yun is watching and analysing every match of North Korea. He will also watch semi finals of North Korea and Ireland. With an away game in Pyeongyang in April ahead, South Korea gained the confidence with best scores ever in the Cyprus Cup.
