<3> The moment of overcoming pressure (On September 24, 2016, Mokdong Stadium)
Korea University and Yonsei University are fierce rivals. A match between rivals is always intense. Korea University conceded a goal in the first half but Korea University secured a victory scoring 3 goals later. When the final whistle blew, coach Seo Dongwon cheered with tears. It showed the burden that he had inside.
<2> The moment of achievement (August 10, 2016, Olympic match against Mexico, Mane Garrincha Stadium)
The most difficult game might be the one you would be just fine with a draw. There is always uncertainty in football. But Korean Olympic national team proceeded to the Olympic quarterfinals overcoming uncertainty. Mexico dominated the game in the first half. But Korea snatched a victory with Kwon Changhoon’s goal. When Kwon’s left-footer went into the net everybody cheered.
<1> The moment of determination turning to a result (December 3, 2016, FA Cup final 2nd leg, Seoul World Cup Stadium)
2016 season was a difficult time for Suwon Samsung. Once, they were in the relegation zone. It was a disgrace for the Bluewings. Suwon wanted to regain the honor in the FA Cup. Suwon and Seoul had to take a penalty shoot-out. 10 kickers stood on the spot from the both teams. Suwon goalkeeper Yang Hyeongmo finally put an end to the game. Yang took the penalty kick and scored. Suwon was able to regain their pride by lifting FA Cup trophy.
Frustration is inevitable emotion in sports. You would go to really hard time but such experience also brings a lay of hope. These are the moments of frustration in 2016 Korean football.
<3> The moment of recognizing a wall of world stage (November 21, 2016, U-20 World Cup group qualifying match, PNG football stadium, Port Moresby)
The wall of the world stage was higher than we anticipated. U-20 Korea Women’s national team put everything to reach quarter-finals at the U-20 World Cup. But the Taegeuk girls had to accept the gap. This frustration became a stimulant to Korean women’s football as well as all the players.
<2> The moment of Azadi nightmare reviving (October 11, 2016, AFC final qualifying round for 2018 Russia World Cup, Azadi stadium, Iran)
The nightmare of Azadi stadium revived. It has been a difficult challenge when it comes to away games in Iran. Korean football fans expected a different outcome this time but the nightmare continued. As Korean national team lost to Iran 1-0, the winless run at Azadi stadium continued. 80,000 Iranian male fans overwhelmed the atmosphere of the stadium. However, Korea kept their World Cup hope alive as they beat Uzbekistan in the next match.
<1> The moment of relegation (November 20, 2016. K League Promotion-relegation play-off 2nd leg, Tancheon Stadium)
It was the very first relegation for Seongnam. Seongnam fans did not know what to say. Seongnam FC lost to Gangwon FC in the relegation battle. Fans cried and sighed. We can see the frustration of relegation from the faces of Seongnam fans.
Football is a team sport. Players have to believe in themselves and to stick together as a team. We also need a respect in football. We have to respect other teams, fans and referees. When everyone makes a harmony football can be a beautiful sport. These are the moments of comradeship in 2016 Korean football.
<3> The moment of smiling (October 8, 2016, 2016 Daegyo Noonoppi Youth Football League Championship, Cheongja Stadium, Gangjin)
Youth Football League Championship is a tournament. Once you lose there will be no chance for you. Hyundai Middle School defeated Jumunjin Middle school 2-0 and secured a ticket to the quarter-finals. There were winners and losers but everybody smiled at the end. Despite the result, An Jaejun (Hyundai) and Cho Gyumin (Jumunjin) took each other’s hands.

A troubleshooter came back to the team in a crisis and he did not condescend. He approached the players as a friend and a brother. Did he make a difference? Yes, probably. Korean national team defeated Canada and Uzbekistan after the turmoil. Cha, a newly appointed technical analyst, supported players as a colleague and brother. His approach helped Korean team find a unity.
<1> The moment of glorious defeat (November 16, 2016, U League Football Championship, Korea University Green Stadium)
One team made their way through to the trophy and the other team failed to do so. Songho College was the new force in 2016 U League Football Championship. Songho College faced Korea University in the final. /b>
Songho College showed a courage and braveness but they lost to Korea University 0-2. It was a painful defeat but the players of Songho college did not back down. They congratulated the players of Korea University sincerely. It showed a dignity of football. It was a glorious defeat.
Fighting spirit: Willpower to fight until the last minute
Fans do not want to see only a result but also determination and sincere attitude. Therefore, a football game that lacks a fighting spirit does not move fan’s heart. Fans love an attitude of not giving up until the last minute and passion for the ball.
<3> The moment of running for the same goal (November 6, K3 Championship final 1st leg, Hengdeok Football Park)
In 2016 K3 Championship final, Cheongju City FC and FC Pocheon were there to decide the winner. Cheongju wanted to lift the trophy in their first ever season in the league while pocheon aimed the 5th title. The match was intense. Pocheon’s Kim Chanhee and Cheongju’s Lee Hwisoo clashed with each other. Players of the both teams confronted in a volatile situation.
<2> The moment of enduring a pain (October 6, AFC final qualifying round for 2018 World Cup, Suwon World Cup Stadium)
The early stage of the world cup qualification was a thorny path. Before the Qatar game, Korea defeated China 3-2 and drew with Syria 0-0. Facing Qatar, Korea finished the first half 1-2. To make matters worse, Son Heungmin injured and he came to the pitch with his ankle tapped. However, It was Son who scored the winning goal in the second half. Son’s strong sense of responsibility shined the victory.
<1> The moment of physical challenge (May 9, 2016, Yeowanggi Women's Football Tournament U-12, Hapcheon Sports Park)
Yeowanggi Women's Football Tournament U-12 has been a cradle for talented players in Korea women’s football. In the 2016 competition created one of the most dynamic scenes. The players of Namsan Elementary School and Shinha Elementary School were tangled to get the ball. At glance, it seems rough and intense as they are tussle with each other. Young girls put everything to claim a victory.
