Korea U-17 national team led by Jeong Jeongyong took 4th place in the 2016 International U-18 Winter Tournament.
On December 15, Korea U-17 lost to Israel U-17 3-4 in the penalty shootout after having a 2-2 draw. Korea had to play in the 3rd place deciding match as they defeated by Serbia U-17 0-3 on December 13.
In the 5', Israel U-17 scored from a corner kick situation. Korea tried hard to level the score but it was Israel who scored the second goal of the match. In the second half, Korea came to the pitch with improved determination and finally made the result. In the 52', Lee Jisol's header went into the net. In 83', Lee Jisol scored his second goal of the day. Lee fired a right-footer after receiving a pass from Lee Sangjun. Lee Sangjun showed a steady performance on the right flank.
In the penalty shoot-out, Korea's Kim Hyunwoo and Jeong Wooyeong missed the shot while Israel's four kickers all scored.
In general, Korea U-17 played competitive football but they lacked a goal-scoring ability. Germany U-17 won the tournament beating Serbia U-17 2-0. Park Jeongmin was named as MVP for Korea U-17 national team.
This U-17 national team is expected to participate in AFC U-19 Championship and FIFA U-20 World Cup. The young Taegeuk Warriors gained previous and valuable experience facing competitive opponents in the 2016 International U-18 Winter Tournament.
