Suwon Samsung Bluewings won the FA Cup trophy

Suwon Samsung Bluewings won the FA Cup trophy after beating FC Seoul 10-9 on penalties. Once, Suwon was in the relegation battle during the season but the Bluewings ended 2016 season with a memorable achievement.

On December 3, Suwon lost to FC Seoul 1-2 in the second leg of FA Cup finals at Seoul World Cup Stadium. With 3-3 of aggregate score, the both teams entered to the extra time. But the super match rivals failed to score after 30 minuets. At the end, the two team went into the penalty shootout to find the winner.

The hero of the first half of Seoul goalkeeper Yu Sanghun. In the 14', Jonathan faced the goalkeeper one on one but Yu made a great save. In the 28', Kwon Changhoon fired a left-footer in the left flank of the box but Yu punched it. In the 30', Suwon striker Lee Sangho was also denied by Yu's powerful hand.

Suwon faced the trouble in the 35'. Suwon defender Lee Jungsoo raised his arm into Park Chuyoung's face and the referee showed a yellow card. Lee had to be eliminated from the pitch as it was his second yellow card on that day. Lee picked up another card earlier while he was defending Yojiro Takahagi

Seoul did not keep the man-advantage long. At the latter stage of the first half, Seoul's Takahagi picked his second yellow card. Players of the both teams were in the volatile situation but there was no violence on the pitch. The first half ended 0-0.

In the second half, Suwon went ahead with Jonathan's goal. The Brazilian fired a right-footer after receiving a pass from Lee Sangho. There was no chance for Yu. Seoul put their everything to level the score. And high-scoring striker Adriano once again saved the team. Adriano scored a precious goal with Park Chyoung's assist. In the 89', coach Hwang put Yoo Seungwon as a last resort. And Hwang's decision made a result. Yoon headed a ball crossed from the right flank and the ball went into the net.

In extra time, Seoul's Adriano and Cho Chanho had good chances but Suwon goalkeeper Yang denied their efforts. The game finally entered to the penalty shootout. The both team could not find the winner until the both goalkeepers had to take the spot kick. Seoul's Yu missed the kick while Suwon's Yang scored to determine Suwon's fourth FA Cup title as well as a ticket for AFC Champions League.
