On November 22, KFA held a press conference at NFC and announced the new U-20 coach. Shin who has worked as an assistant coach for the senior national team will lead the U-19 team. The team will participate in the FIFA U-20 World Cup which will be held in Korea next May.
Newly appointed Shin will not get involved in the senior national team any longer. The national team will hire new coaches to replace Shin. One of them will be a head coach and the other one will be a physical coach.
Coach Shin, the former manager of 2016 Olympic national team, led the U-23 Taegeuk Warriors to the quarterfinals in Rio.
Lee Yongsu, a director of?KFA?technical committee, said "We had 14 candidates and there was a profound discussion on this matter. At the end, there were two candidates and our decision was Shin. We called coach Shin and asked him to accept the offer. He readily agreed to take the role. Coach Jung is also a good coach and he proved himself in the Suwon Cup. But we appreciated coach Shin's international experience."
The technical committee will hire new coaches to fill up the Shin's position.
Dr. Lee added "We are going to have another discussion about new coaches with Stielike. We will make sure that the national team will be equipped with new coaches before the World Cup final qualification resumes next March."
